Artichoke has been used traditionally as a medicinal herb for its diuretic and digestive aid properties.
The results of several clinical studies suggest that artichoke extracts are useful when used in connection with hepato-biliary dysfunction and digestive complaints, such as sensation of fullness, loss of appetite, nausea, and abdominal pain. It has also been tested as a treatment for heartburn (dyspepsia) as well as irritable bowel syndrome and high cholesterol.
